Comtec establishes U.S. subsidiary to target international expansion

Leisure travel technology supplier Comtec has established a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary to develop its presence within the North American market.

The company has acquired premises near Washington D.C. and Comtec Group Director, Richard Turner, is being seconded from its South Wales headquarters at the end of March in order to establish the US operation and develop Comtec’s North American sales and marketing activity.

Comtec already employs US-based Product Consultants to support Vacation.com, North America’s largest Travel Marketing Organisation, which has implemented Comtec’s technology platform to power its EZGuider sales and management system. The technology supplier, whose customers include Thomas Cook, TUI Travel and Stella Travel Services is now targeting significant expansion in North America and other markets over the next three years in order to develop Comtec into, it says, a major international travel technology company.

Commenting, Richard Turner, Group Director at Comtec said, “Our successful system implementation with Vacation.com has proved to us, and the US travel industry, that Comtec technology can be effectively adapted to international markets. Having invested over 12 months in developing the sales platform for EZGuider, and learnt a lot about the North American travel market along the way, we are now ready for a major push into North America. We are therefore now committing Comtec to permanent local sales and delivery presence.”

In parallel with the Vacatio.com project, Comtec has also implemented an e-commerce service for U.S. tour operator, Travelly.com. Simon Powell, CEO at Comtec added, "This is a very excisting time for Comtec. I can see our business being three or four times our current size in the next 5 years. A key par of our growth will come from international expansion, both in the US and other markets within Europe and beyond".
